I’m Walking On Sunshine With All These Songs This Summer: What I’ve Been Digging

In the summer you’ll find me driving with my windows all down, the sun on my skin, my music turned way up, and me singing so loud the guy next to me rolls up his window. So, what have I been singing? Quite a lot actually. I had to amend my list. It was HELLA long. This is the abridged version. You’re welcome. In no particular order, here they are:

1. Evidence by 2AM Club

Funny story about this one: I shared it with a friend and he automatically went to the idea that the guy has to clean up after a murder of his girlfriend that left. Now that’s all I can think of. Hoping that’s all you can think of now too.

2. I Don’t Wanna Be Here Anymore by Rise Against

Their newest album, The Black Market just came out earlier this week. Being from around the same area, of course I’m even more proud to be listening to these rock activists. I could go on for days about how insanely awesome Rise Against is, but I’ll refrain (for now).

3. The Three of Us by Streetlight Manifesto

Whenever I listen to Streetlight Manifesto, I just get so happy. Doesn’t matter what mood I’m in. They do ska and they do it right. Pretty much any of their songs could be substituted, but I’ve definitely been singing this one at work, in the shower, standing in line at the grocery store. It’s that fun.

4. Where Have You Been by Reel Big Fish

Keeping with the theme of awesome ska bands, we have some Reel Big Fish. This song is definitely one of my favorites from them. It just feels so good to have this one blasting through the speakers. There’s also a delicious acoustic version they do of this song too. Delish.

5. Arizona by Hey Monday

Getting a little lighter we have Hey Monday. It could be that I always associate this song with summer because Arizona is warm. It could be that I just like when the sun hits me in the face and this song is in the background. It could be because I saw them live in Arizona and they played this song. Whatever the reason – it’s on the list.

6. Arrows by Fireworks

This is another semi-pop rock song that I can’t get enough of. First off, the music video is delightfully dark and twisted yet somehow still fun and upbeat. This song is associated with summer, for me, because the first time I heard it was off of the Vans Warped Tour album. So what if that was two years ago?!

7. California On My Mind by Wild Light

This song was recommended to me about a year ago when I was looking for new music. This song. I played on repeat for a solid two weeks. That’s all I listened to. It happened. It’s on here for the simple reason that California is sunny (we’re getting super deep here).

8. Time Has Come by Bayside

Of course there’s a Bayside song on the list. For those who have been following me for awhile, you’ll know that I saw them in concert with Alkaline Trio and wrote a blog about it. The concert was semi-summer time so here it is!

9. Anything with whistling. No, this isn’t a specific song. Any song that has whistling is automatically a summer song.

10. Anything that makes me do this silly non-dancing dance. It’s kind of hard to explain, but it’s basically any song that makes it impossible for me to sit still. The elbows get involved, throw in a little shoulder, and some weird hand gestures and you’ll get the idea.

There are a TON more songs that I could put on this post, but we don’t have time for that. So, I’m leaving it up to you! Tell me in the comments below what song gets your engine revving? What have you been listening to and just dying to tell anyone and everyone? What’s your go-to summer song?

Like. Comment. Follow.

(This is where my sign-off would go, but I can’t think of something clever. Ideas?)
